As environmental visionaries see it, the future of energy is not in greenhouse gas-emitting fuels like oil and coal -- whose supply is running out -- but in sustainable, non-global warming sources like wind and sun and waves from the ocean and in the enormous storehouse of heat that naturally occurs deep underground. An environmental advocate, a civil rights activist and attorney, and an author. Formerly based in
Oakland, California, Jones is the president and founder of Green For All, a national NGO dedicated to
"building an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty."
His first book, The Green Collar Economy, released on October 7, 2008, was a New York Times
Jones also founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, a California NGO working for alternatives
to violence and incarceration.[
